Prof. Jane-Frances Agbu

Professor Jane-Frances Agbu is a distinguished academic with extensive experience in higher education and open and distance learning (ODL). She currently serves as an Adviser for Higher Education at the Commonwealth of Learning. She holds a PhD and a master’s degree in psychology from the University of Lagos, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from the University of Nigeria. She earned full Professorship of Clinical Psychology in 2019, from the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), where she served in many capacities as Dean of Faculty of Health Sciences; Centre Director and OER coordinator. She held an International Council for Open and Distance Education (ICDE) Chair in Open Educational Resources (2017- 2021) and was a Laureate of the 2016 Open Leadership Institute of Creative Commons.
Professor Jane-Frances Agbu has made significant contributions to the field of education, particularly in open and distance learning (ODL). Her research interests include Open Educational Resources (OER) where she has been actively involved in promoting the use of OER to enhance access to quality education. Her work in this area includes developing and implementing strategies for integrating OER into educational systems. As a clinical psychologist, she has conducted extensive research on mental health issues, particularly in the context of higher education. Her studies often focus on the psychological well-being of students and the impact of ODL on mental health. Her work has been published in various academic journals and she has presented at numerous national and international meetings. Professor Agbu is from Onitsha, Anambra state, Nigeria and is blessed with three children.
